Today, we are discussing how the Science of Reading Academies will have a profound impact on students learning to read.

“Many teachers have not yet been introduced to the science of reading. A good number have taken nontraditional certification pathways, while others were taught a balanced literacy or whole language approach to teaching reading. The science of reading, by contrast, emphasizes swift identification and intervention for students at risk for reading struggles, a systemic approach that includes all teachers and administrators, explicit instruction in letter sounds and syllables and teaching phonics and other language skills in the sequence research has shown will be most beneficial to children learning to read.”
